Les Anderson

Les Anderson, former Mayor of Eugene and UO Foundation trustee, died October 8 of cancer at his son’s Eugene home. He was 78. Anderson was a Foundation trustee from 1985 to 1995. He also served as president of the UO Alumni Foundation, The Oregon Track Club and the Oregon Club. He received the UO Pioneer Award in 1983 and the Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1997.

Anderson obtained his degree in business in 1946 after his education was interrupted by the war. He had served as student body president in 1942. After graduation, he worked for the University for 10 years as executive director of the Alumni Association and later as assistant to the president. Anderson also served on the School of Journalism and Communication’s Journalism Advancement Council.

He served on the Eugene City Council from 1965 to 1968 and as mayor from 1969 to 1977.

He is survived by his wife, Terry; two sons, Erik and Jon; and two daughters, Leslie and Elizabeth.
