From the air, the Kalahari resembles no desert I’ve ever seen. It has none of the craggy mountains of the Sonoran, or the flesh-colored dunes of the Mojave, or the stony mesas of the Atacama. In contrast, the Kalahari is a flat mosaic of tan and ochre sand.
