Hultengs endow ethics chair
During the Sept. 19 dedication of the new John L. Hulteng Student Services Center, Elizabeth "B.J." Hulteng announced that the Hulteng family has made a $1.5-million pledge to endow a chair in media ethics and responsibility in honor of her late husband. "John put ethics into anything he taught, so it's natural that we would honor him this way. He believed in ethical responsibility so strongly that he made a career of teaching it," said B.J. Hulteng, who lives in Spokane, Wash.   the Hultengs

Charles Duncan   Charles Duncan 1914-1997

Charles Duncan, a former dean of the University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication whose graceful columns appeared in The Register-Guard for more than a decade, died May 27 of lung cancer. He was 83.

Prof. Stavitsky teaching

  Al Stavitsky named associate dean

Associate professor Alan Stavitsky has been named to fill the vacancy left by associate professor Tim Gleason when Gleason became dean following the resignation of Duncan McDonald. Stavitsky was named to the post in June for the 1997-98 academic year, until the post is permanently filled in 1998.
