Accreditation visit a success

A visiting team from the Accrediting Council for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication has recommended re-accreditation for the SOJC.

The team made the recommendation in its report last week after a three-day visit to Allen Hall, during which team members toured facilities, visited with faculty and students, observed classes and met with UO representatives.

The visit was a key part of a self-study process that began over a year ago, when Dean Tim Gleason and a small committee began compiling the school’s 2005 self-study report.  The re-accreditation process will culminate in a final decision by the ACEJMC accrediting council at meetings to be held in Chicago March 11th and 12th. Gleason will represent the school at those meetings.

“The process demonstrated to us how well we do what we say we do,” Gleason says.

The site visit team included Trevor Brown, Professor Emeritus, School of Journalism, Indiana University; Paul Parsons, Dean, School of communications, Elon University; John Cochran, Chief Washington Correspondent, ABC News; Marcia Prior-Miller, Assoc. Prof., School of Journalism & Communication, Iowa State University; Constance Cannon Frazier, Executive Vice President, Mosaic Center and Educational Services., American Advertising Federation; Dulcie Straughan, Head, Public Relations Sequence, School of Journalism and Mass Communications, University of North Carolina.
