Benoit Denizet-Lewis will deliver Johnston Lecture April 6
Benoit Denizet-Lewis, the youngest contributing writer at The New York Times Magazine and a two-time finalist for $10,000 Livingston Award for journalists under the age of thirty-five, will discuss “Writing about Sex and Sexuality in America” at the SOJC on Thursday, April 6, as the school’s twentieth Johnston lecturer. While on campus, Denizet-Lewis will also lead a workshop on “Writing about addiction” for graduate students in the school’s magazine and literary nonfiction programs. “Benoit is young, talented and ambitious in the best sense of the
word,” Lauren Kessler, SOJC professor and director of the literary
nonfiction program, says. “He tackles big, important stories
with honesty and integrity, combining the zeal of a journalist with the
storytelling craft of a novelist.” Denizet-Lewis, a 1997 graduate of the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University, is a former senior writer at Boston Magazine and staff writer at the San Francisco Chronicle. His workhas also appeared in Details, ESPN the Magazine, JANE, Salon, and others. He has taught magazine and nonfiction writing at Tufts, Northeastern University, and Emerson College. His writing awards include the Excellence in Journalism Award from the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association (NLGJA) and a Maggie Award for magazine writing.
