Five inducted into school’s Hall of Achievement

More than 130 friends and family, faculty, alumni, and students were present for the eighth annual Hall of Achievement dinner and awards event held at Valley River Inn on
November 3.

The event honored five extraordinary individuals, all of whom began their careers as students in Allen Hall.  Scott Bedbury ’80 engineered the success of two of the world’s most recognizable brands and has since continued to earn worldwide respect for his own brand of marketing genius. Jack Williams ’65 has excelled in broadcasting and while doing so has made a major difference in the lives of hundreds of special-needs children in the Boston area.  Robert Reed ’49 spent time in every realm of the newspaper business; upon his so-called retirement, he created an innovative comics-pagination system that is used in four out of five major metropolitan newspapers today. Rich Jernstedt ’69 has exhibited a dedication and commitment to excellence in his public relations career—and in his community—that is inspiring to us all. And, last but certainly not least, the life of longtime Oregonian reporter and editor Milly Wohler ’43 is a model for any student, male or female, who has ever wanted to push the boundaries of convention in pursuit of a calling.

The event raises funds for the Hall of Achievement Student Fund. The scholarship program, which was created in 2002, includes the Hall of Achievement Student Fund as well as individual scholarship funds that honor members of the Hall of Achievement by name.  Our goal is to continue to build the fund so that we may provide support to all deserving students.
