Reporting nets the Pulitzer Prize

Rick Attig & Brent Walth
Brent Walth ’84, a reporter for The Oregonian, and Rick Attig ’83, associate editor, are both part of the newspaper’s team that was recently awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Public Service. The award recognized the excellence of The Oregonian team’s series of articles examining problems within the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service in Portland and throughout the United States. The Oregonian won two Pulitzer Prizes this year, one for Public Service and one for Feature Writing. Managing editor, Jack Hart, a former journalism faculty member, was an editor on both Pulitzer wins.

The UO now counts nine Pulitzer Prize winners among its alumni. Six are SOJC alums and another has close ties to
the School.
