Nominations wanted for 2003 Payne Awards The Payne Awards celebrate the long tradition of journalists and news organizations serving the public interest. By their examples, recipients exhibit integrity and character in their work. The Payne Awards may be given annually to a working professional and a student journalist in broadcasting, print or new media who publish in a recognized news publication, and to a news organization that demonstrates high standards of ethical behavior. Ancil Payne, a leader in Northwest broadcasting, established the Payne Awards in 1999. He has contributed to the arts, politics, education and the general well-being of his community throughout his lifetime.
