Anchor wins award Alum Pete Ferryman, now at KLAS-TV in Las Vegas, and his co-anchor have been chosen by Associated Press as the bestanchor team in their market-size class in the Western states. Journal shows work The editorial board has been formed for Studies in Communication and Society, which is intended to represent the work of our graduate programs. Students: Jim Englehardt, Chad Kennedy, Laura Esterman, Ashley Overbeck, Michael Huffman, Ellen Riordan, and Chris Demaske. Faculty: Jim Lemert, Tim Gleason, Deb Merskin, Al Stavitsky, Wayne Wanta, Leslie Steeves, and John Russial. The editors are Janet Wasko and Lewis Kaye. Vanhala honored Helena Vanhala has been awarded an International Student Excellence Award from the University's Office of International Education and Exchange. Vanhala was honored for her outstanding scholarship, leadership and community service. In addition to her coursework in our master's program, Vanhala has been teaching Finnish as a GTF in the Dept. of Germanic Languages and Literatures, serving as a U.S. correspondent for Finland's Radiomafia radio network, and helping to set up an exchange program between our school and her alma mater, the University of Tampere. Vanhala will be entering our doctoral program in the fall. Ad team takes second The ad team came in second by a few points in the regional competition held in Billings April 16 - 19. The team was composed of Levi Buchanan, Yujin Chi, Rene Knowles, Tyson Krueger, Yola Margaluhur, Jason Ogan, Jay Phua, Jola Prock and Anne Rothlisberger. The client was Hallmark cards. David Koranda was the faculty adviser. Addition Heather Leigh Davis, who wrote "A White House intern -- and proud
of it" which was republished in the Winter 1998 edition of Flash,
is the daughter of Glenn Davis, editor of The Oregonian's op-ed
page. He is a UO alum who graduated from the journalism school
in 1966. |
