SOJC enrollment has been steadily on the rise. In 2002-03, the school awarded 346 baccalaureate degrees. In 03-04, 371. And this year, the SOJC expects to award 383 bachelor's degrees completed during the 2004-05 school year. Approximately 300 of those students (who graduated during fall, winter, and spring terms) participated in the school's 2005 commencement ceremony, held on the South Lawn of the Knight Library on Saturday, June 11.

That 383 includes 153 advertising majors; 24 communication studies majors; 63 electronic media majors; 74 magazine majors; 33 news-editorial; and 71 in public relations. Many journalism students graduate with more than one major.

The school also awarded twenty-four graduate degrees, including 7 Ph.D. degrees, in 2004-05.

Here's an interesting fact that Dean Tim Gleason pointed out in his remarks at commencement: The first graduating class of the SOJC, in 1916, had a total of four students.

More about Commencement 2005, including photos and a list of award winners, in the next print issue of Flash, delivered to a mailbox near you next month.
