Professionals from wide-ranging fields gave students the inside scoop on the world outside
Daniel Baxter of Borders, Perrin & Norander visited Ad Agency Account Management to discuss account planning. At the end of the term, Rick Burton spoke to the class about sports marketing. Paul Carter, assistant graphics editor and photojournalist for the Register-Guard, visited Bill Ryans Advanced Photojournalism class. Photojournalists Nicole DeVito, Chris Pietsch, and graphics editor Rob Romig also visited the class. Tim Clevenger, 86, of Sullivan, Pattison and Clevenger talked with Advertising Account Management students about agency compensation and new business. The following week, Harry Pattison (also of Sullivan, Pattison and Clevenger) spoke with the class about creative work in advertising. Students in Reporting II were fortunate to host Philip Hager, 59, of the San Francisco Daily News. Scott Maben, 90, a municipal reporter for The Register-Guard also visited Steve Ponders Reporting II class. Guy Maynard, 84, editor of Oregon Quarterly, visited the Magazine I class this winter. Maynard conducted an unofficial workshop on effective story pitching and critiqued students ideas and technique. Veronica Rinard, 84, from the Oregon Film and Video Office visited Janet Waskos U.S. Film Industry class. Veronica talked about film and video production activities in Oregon. Students in Advertising Portfolio Development traveled to Portland for a portfolio review by Rob Rosenthal, 80, at Moffatt/Rosenthal. Hart Rosen, a Moffatt/Rosenthal copywriter and Carson Lord, a free-lance copywriter also reviewed the students work. Tim Wolfe, 93, who now works at Wieden & Kennedy/Amsterdam, proposed the trip to Professor Ann Maxwell. Alum Jeanette Smith, 81, discussed her job marketing Dilbert products and licensing issues with Ad Agency Account Management students. David Steves, a political reporter for The Register-Guard, discussed politics and reporting with students in Reporting II. Alice Tallmadge, MA 87, a regional correspondent for The Oregonian, visited Reporting II . Tallmadge covers both Lane and Douglas Counties. Scott Thompson, 84, and Jenny Deymonaz, 99, of Fred Meyer talked with Ad Agency Account Management students about the characteristics of effective advertising . The Magazine I class was treated to a lecture by Gary Turley, 89, managing editor of Mercators World magazine. Turley discussed what he looks for in an article. Sara Wiltz, 82, of Eugenes Funk & Associates Agency discussed agency/client relations with Charlie Frazers Ad Agency Account Management class. Scott Wyland, 90, a business reporter for the Eugene Business
