Internships, jobs, and scholarships posted online

The School has put together a resource for students and alumni: the University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication’s online internship, job and scholarship database. Easily found through the SOJC home page, the database contains information about a variety of opportunities for all journalism and communication students, both undergraduate and graduate. Internship Coordinator Pam Cytrynbaum manages all of the job postings and internship information. Assistant Dean Greg Kerber maintains the scholarship section of the database.

Set up much like a standard online search engine, the database allows users to specify the kind of journalism in which they’re most interested, geographical area, type of compensation, academic standing and any other keywords that might narrow the search.

In addition, students who are looking for an internship can refer to the website’s Guide to Landing an Internship. Developed by Visiting Professor Don Campbell, the guide details step-by-step how to find and prepare for an excellent internship experience. Designed to give applicants a leg-up on the stiff competition in the internship market, the guide includes information on preparing for the internship search, based on the advice of communications employers, recruiters, faculty advisers and college internship/placement directors across the country.

While most of the jobs and internships listed in the database are located in the Pacific Northwest, nationwide postings are becoming more frequent.
