Reporting nets the Pulitzer Prize

Bridgit Meads
Bridgit Meads, '02, is the recipient of the 2001 Outstanding Student Fundraiser Award.

Annual giving to the J-School provides more than $100,000 for student and faculty expenses that are not covered by state funds. This money is critical to our operation and to the maintenance of a quality program.

We're proud of Bridgit Meads, '02, who has worked as a student caller for the University's Telefund since January of 2000. During her time here, she has done an outstanding job raising about $300,000. Bridgit is a senior majoring in journalism. Recently she was the recipient of the 2001 Outstanding Student Fundraiser Award. When asked why she is so successful at fundraising, she said that she
really likes helping the School and the University and is genuinely interested in the people she talks with on the phone. "I've met so many fascinating people," she says.

The Telefund, a program within Annual Giving, calls about 50,000 alumni each year, raising more than one million dollars to benefit the University of Oregon's academic programs. Approximately 36 students make calls to alumni during evening and weekend shifts.

Some examples of ways the money is spent at the J-School are helping students travel to conferences and produce portfolios for job interviews.
