The SOJC celebrated the legacy of Willis S. Duniway, a former journalist and public relations executive, with the unveiling of the Willis S. Duniway Journalism Resource Center. Duniway, who was editor of the Oregon Daily Emerald, graduated in 1932 and went on to be an award-winning wire service bureau chief.

The Duniway Center is part of the $6-million Allen Hall renovation project, and was made possible by a $400,000 gift from Dorothy Duniway to honor her late husband. Located in the east wing of Allen Hall, the Duniway Center was designed to support curricular innovation and to provide needed student meeting, study and resource space.

"In the past five years, we have developed a number of courses that require substantial writing, research and design projects," Dean Tim Gleason said. "As the School's curriculum increasingly emphasizes team and individual projects, we need space for student meetings and team conferences; and students need greater access to computers and computer networks. The Duniway Center meets all of these needs."
